Bonn is the German city of the United Nations. In 2006, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel handed over the former „Langer Eugen“ high-rise parliament building to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Almost all of Bonn’s United Nations organisations work here under one roof. As the need for space has grown, further buildings have been added, for example for the Climate Secretariat.
The focus of the work in Bonn is on sustainability. The major issues of the future, such as biodiversity, climate protection or renewable energies, are negotiated here. Many of the 150 or so non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based in Bonn also work on sustainability issues.
The UN Campus is only about 3 kilometres away from our Hotel Kurfürstenhof. You can reach it by underground in 6 minutes (from Bonn main station), by car or on foot in a short walk through Bonn’s Südstadt.
