Bonn is considered the cradle of German democracy. For about 50 years, Bonn was the seat of government and for 40 years the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Visitors can walk along the „Path of Democracy“ in the former government quarter, following in the footsteps of political history. The path leads to 65 contemporary historical sites such as the Hofgarten, only a few minutes‘ walk from our hotel, which was the scene of numerous large-scale political rallies, especially in the 1980s. The „Path of Democracy“ can be explored on your own or as part of guided tours offered by the city of Bonn.
The Villa Hammerschmidt, still the official residence of the Federal President in Bonn, the Palais Schaumburg, the official residence of the Federal Chancellor in Bonn, the Chancellor’s Bungalow, former embassies in Bonn Bad Godesberg and the Adenauer House in Bad Honnef open their doors to interested guests as authentic, contemporary historical sites.
